About three weeks. That is how long you have before the fair is expected to begin.
Most visitors lose the fair before it starts, at the booking stage. Rooms go first. Cabs go next. By the second week of November, what is left is what nobody wanted.
This post is a countdown. It tells you what to book, in what order, and what to do if you are already late.
The Dates, and What Is Not Confirmed Yet
One date is firm. Kartik Purnima, the main bathing day, falls on Tuesday, 24 November 2026.
The rest is expected, not official. Travel sources put the fair at 17 to 24 November, and some at 17 to 25 November. As of mid-October, sources said the full programme was not yet confirmed by Rajasthan authorities. Check the official tourism listing before you pay for anything that cannot be changed.
| Event | Date | Status |
|---|---|---|
| Diwali | Sunday, 8 November 2026 | Firm |
| Pushkar Camel Fair 2026 window | About 17 to 24 or 25 November | Expected, confirm |
| Kartik Purnima bath | Tuesday, 24 November 2026 | Firm |
Step 1: Pick Your Fair Day Before You Book Anything
The fair is not one experience. The early days lean toward camel and livestock trading, competitions and music. The last days shift toward the pilgrimage and the holy dip.
Visit early if you want the trading and the photography. Visit around 24 November if the bath is the point. Expect far heavier crowds then, and treat it as a pilgrimage, not a sightseeing day.
Not sure? Go in the middle of the window. You usually get some of both, with fewer people.
Step 2: Book the Stay First
Rooms are the scarcest item. Prices rise sharply, and the best options near the lake and fairground go first.
Stay within walking distance if you can. Streets are narrow, traffic is heavy and the fairground is a walk from the road. A room you can reach on foot saves hours.
If Pushkar is full, Ajmer is the usual fallback. Many visitors base there and commute over the hill. It adds a drive each way, so plan your day around it.
Step 3: Book the Cab Second, Not Last
Drivers who know the fair-week diversions get booked early. A cab arranged late is often a driver who has never seen fair traffic.
From Jaipur, Pushkar is about 140 to 150 km, usually around three hours without fair traffic. Fair days add time, mostly in the last few kilometres.
If you want one driver for the whole trip, a Jaipur to Pushkar tour keeps the same vehicle across Ajmer and Pushkar. That matters when roads are crowded and parking is tight.
Step 4: Arrival Day
If you are flying in, plan the airport leg before anything else. Jaipur is the usual gateway, about three hours from Pushkar by road.
Share your flight number with a Jaipur airport pickup service so the driver tracks delays. Fair-week airport traffic is heavy, and a late flight should not leave you without a ride.
Do not try to reach Pushkar the same evening on a late arrival. Rest in Jaipur and leave early.
Traffic and Parking on Fair Days
This is the part visitors underestimate. Pushkar’s lanes were built for people and camels, not cars.
Expect diversions and limits on where vehicles can stop near the fairground and the lake. Your driver will drop you at an agreed point, and you will walk the rest.
Agree a pickup time and place before you step out. Phone networks get patchy in big crowds, so do not rely on a call to find each other.
A Day Trip From Jaipur, Hour by Hour
It is possible, and it is long. Here is how a realistic day runs.
| Time | Plan |
|---|---|
| 5:30 am | Leave Jaipur |
| 8:30 to 9:00 am | Arrive near Pushkar, walk to the fairground |
| 9:00 to 12:00 | Livestock area and fair stalls, best in the morning light |
| 12:00 to 2:00 pm | Lunch and the lake ghats |
| 2:00 to 3:30 pm | Temple visit or shopping |
| 3:30 pm | Start back |
| 7:00 to 8:00 pm | Reach Jaipur |
Twelve hours door to door, mostly on your feet. If you would rather see the fair at dawn and dusk, stay a night.
Adding Temples and Ajmer
Many families pair the fair with darshan. The Brahma Temple at Pushkar and the dargah at Ajmer are the usual stops.
If your group also wants temples in Jaipur, a short Jaipur city darshan cab morning before departure works well. Keep it to the early hours, so the Pushkar leg stays on time.
Temples close at midday and fill up on festival days. Ask your driver for that day’s timings.
If Your Dates Fall Near Diwali
Diwali is 8 November, ten days before the fair. Many travellers combine the two and stay in Rajasthan through the festival weeks.
That squeezes cab and hotel supply across the whole month. Our post on Diwali week cab booking in Jaipur explains how driver leave and market traffic affect your plans.
Wedding Season Overlaps
November is also the start of the wedding season. Decorated cars and larger vehicles get booked for baraats, which tightens the pool of cars for visitors.
If your family has a wedding in the same weeks, secure wedding cars Jaipur bookings early. Do not assume the same driver can handle both a wedding and a fair trip.
Cold Nights, Dust and Cash
November evenings in the desert are cold. Pack a jacket, a scarf and closed shoes. Days are warm, mornings and nights are not.
The fairground is dusty. A scarf or light mask helps, and so does a bottle of water.
Carry some cash. Many small stalls and photo opportunities do not take digital payments, and network signal drops in crowds.
Staying On After the Fair
If you have come this far, extend the trip. Pushkar makes a good first stop on a Rajasthan circuit.
For a short break around the fair, a Rajasthan tour package 4 nights 5 days keeps the plan tight. Treat it as one region done well.
For a balanced circuit, a 5 nights 6 days Rajasthan tour adds more cities without piling on the driving.
After the crowds, many travellers want the quiet of the dunes. A desert safari tour package in late November is comfortable by day and cold at night, so pack layers.
Cab or Train or Bus
You can reach Pushkar by train to Ajmer and a short onward ride, or by bus from Jaipur. Both work in quiet weeks.
On fair days, public transport is crowded and the last stretch is slow. A private cab gives you a fixed pickup and a driver who knows the diversions. Our post on cab, bus or train in Rajasthan compares the options in more detail.
What to Ask Your Cab Operator
- Is the driver familiar with fair-week traffic and diversions?
- Where will the car drop and pick us up?
- Are tolls, parking and driver night charge included?
- What happens if we are late coming back from the fairground?
- Can I get the driver’s name and number in advance?
If You Are Already Late
It is not over. You have fallback options.
Base in Ajmer if Pushkar is full. Go on a weekday, and visit early in the morning. Pick the middle of the fair rather than the final days.
Or skip the fair days and visit the week before or after. Pushkar is calmer then, and prices are lower.
The Bathing Day: What to Expect
On Kartik Purnima, pilgrims gather at the lake from before dawn. Crowds are the largest of the whole fair, and movement around the ghats is slow.
Elders and small children should think twice. Standing for long in a dense crowd is tiring, and getting separated is easy. If someone in your group must go, agree a meeting point and keep phones charged.
Many visitors choose the days before the bath instead. The atmosphere is still lively, and you can move around without being swept along.
Early Morning Is the Best Hour
If you only have one good hour, make it the first one. Light is soft, the livestock area is busiest with trading, and the heat and dust have not built up.
That is also why staying close matters. A guest who sleeps in Jaipur reaches the fairground after the best light has gone, while someone who sleeps in Pushkar walks there at dawn.
Photographers should ask permission before taking close portraits of traders and animal handlers. A friendly request usually gets a yes. A camera pushed into a face does not.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the Pushkar Camel Fair in 2026?
Expected from about 17 November, running to 24 or 25 November. Kartik Purnima, the main bath, falls on Tuesday, 24 November 2026. Confirm the programme on the official tourism listing.
How far is Pushkar from Jaipur, and how long does it take?
About 140 to 150 km and around three hours by road. Fair days add time near Pushkar because of traffic and diversions.
Is a day trip from Jaipur to the fair possible?
Yes, but it is a long day. Leave around 5:30 am and return by evening. Staying a night lets you see the fairground at dawn and dusk.
Where should I stay for the Pushkar fair?
Within walking distance of the lake and fairground if possible. If Pushkar is full, Ajmer is a common fallback, with a drive over the hill each way.
How early should I book a cab for the fair?
As soon as your dates are fixed, ideally weeks ahead. Drivers who know fair-week traffic get booked early, and large vehicles run out first.
